Our National Capital, Delhi is not a comfort zone due to very heavy air pollution that is being compared to a gas chamber. Ironically, in another national capital, i.e. Bonn, capital of Germany, COP23 is underway since yesterday, 06 November till 17 November, as a follow up to the 2015 COP21 Paris Agreement on Climate Change which was ratified more than a year back.
Delhi is surrounded by Punjab, Haryana, UP. MP, HP, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan and air flow cannot be stopped by State boundaries. As such, Delhi faces the brunt unless all come together to stop air pollution without giving any excuse and delaying tactics. Unfortunately, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change is rather silent on what is happening in Delhi and the Delhi Government is not that capacitated as a full State to act judiciously and with full autonomy.
In fact, India has ratified the Paris Agreement and so must take forward to implement, section by section of the Paris Agreement throughout the country. Let’s see what further commitments would the Union Government make at Bonn.
